The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music Presents:
Russell's Convergence of Yiddish Music and Negro Spirituals

May 6, 2015 | 8:00pm, Schoenberg Hall

About the Event

Anthony Mordechai Tzvi Russell, in collaboration with the Berkeley-based Yiddish music/klezmer ensemble Veretski Pass, presents a new repertoire of works exploring exile, spirituality, hope and redemption, enhanced by the animation work of San Francisco-based artist Meredith Leich. Convergence combines diverse strains of traditional Jewish and African-American music directly at spiritual, historical and textual crossroads. Veretski Pass will offer a workshop for HOSOM students and Russell will offer a lecture to students from Music, World Arts and Cultures, Gender Studies and African American Studies.
